a person who lives and acts free of regard for conventional rules and practices.
That’s what jewelry line Laura Liberation is all about. Forget the diamonds and bring out the stones! Laura Lucchetti, founder and designer of Laura Liberation was just a girl who decided to go for it. She launched the New York City based luxe-bohemian vibe jewelry line Laura Liberation July 2013.
Laura utilizes interesting materials such as raw diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, etc and combine that with elements such as mala beads, handwritten scrolls and symbols such as elephants, anchors and celestial elements that carry significant meaning. She also always uses semi-precious stones that carry healing properties to bring to concept full circle.

Where did you get the idea to start your own jewelry line?
I was always creative and have a strong background in fashion. It’s basically the only thing I have ever done, literally. So, I utilized the skills I learned from attending LIM College in New York, which is a brilliant place to go if you want to learn everything about the business side of the industry and combined that with my background in Fashion Styling. I got certified as an Image Consultant at FIT after obtaining my undergraduate degree, to get a better understanding of the science behind styling. I was working and saw there was a great need for bohemian accessories with a more luxurious influence, so I went out and tried to make that happen at a price point that even hippies can deal with!
How did you promote yourself and get the word out there about your business?
In today’s market place, especially for jewelry, you have to do it all! There is an insane amount of competition. My favorite tactic is still old-school guerrilla marketing; I have put up thousands of Laura Liberation stickers internationally! Thankfully, I haven’t been fined for destruction of property..yet! Social media is obviously a really huge avenue, my favorite is Instagram, because I am a visual person, but you have to do it all! Teaching myself the tech-stuff was one of the toughest parts for me because it’s dry, but once you master something you never thought you’d even be good at, it’s a gratifying feeling.
How has your business/line evolved? (What new things that you’re doing with your business that you didn’t do or weren’t able to do in the beginning)
I started with wire wrap rings! Which are still one of my best sellers! However, I have progressed and gone on to develop a heavy interest in metalsmithing, I just love it. The action is so permanent, strong and so unbreakable, I’m drawn to that. I also enjoy wearing crazy goggles & play with fire, what can I say.
Do you do anything else for a living?
This is my full time job, as running any small business is!
However, I have been a Fashion Stylist for a few years and am blessed to get production and private image consulting work. It’s a huge passion and another way for me to connect with different people. I am also the Co-Creator and Host of a fashion-focused web series called No Name, New York. You guys should check it out 😉
Are there any celebrities that you know of that wear your jewelry?
Yes, I do have quite a few amazing ladies that like to rock our stuff! A lot of talent from MTV & Fuse TV, Zuri Hall is a favorite of mine, because she’s so poised and stunning.
Leah Laurenti, who was featured on American Idol and now has her solo single out on iTunes. Maci Bookout, Kailyn Lowry and Chelsea Houska are all fans and wear our pieces all the time.
Even some participants in Miss USA this year, which is exciting. I love that women (& men!) from all walks of life are interested in my creations. It’s always amazing for me to see how they incorporate my point of view into their own personal style. It makes me feel a connection has been born and lets me know I am doing something right.
Do you have any advice for other people that are trying to start their own online business or a personal business in general?
Get ready to be broke for a while! Ha! Get ready to struggle, to cry and have days where you want to dissolve into a puddle because you feel like it’s never going to work! Then a week later, be grinning from ear to ear because you get a break that can change your entire trajectory.
You have to be able to ride out the really hard times with faith and passion in your project. You have to want to do it more than anything else! When you make a go of it; you are the gas, the gears, the peddles. No one is going to do it for you; it’s 100% up to you. I once heard this amazing quote by a student of Warren G. Tracy and I think of it everyday, “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.” If you can manage that, than you can achieve an ultimately fulfilling life experience, financially, emotionally, and enjoy, down in your bones what you wake up and get to do everyday. I keep that in the forefront of my mind at all times.
